This wasn’t shot with a fancy camera.

I’ll let you in on a little secret…this was captured with a point-and-shoot camera, not a DSLR!

A blue crab caught in a net during a coastal science field trip in Galveston (all marine life was released).

I love capturing photos with my DSLR, but I’ve gotta say, sometimes it’s fun to be a bit retro on the go!

When I’m in a rush or traveling to far off places, I’ll pack my Nikon Coolpix for some point-and-shoot photo action. It’s come underwater with me in Hawaii, overseas to Greece, even to a glacier in Alaska! So, I think by this point it’s earned the name, “Coolpix.”

Here are a few other fun photos caught by this handy handheld camera (one of which has even been published!). It’s not always the camera that matters, sometimes, it’s just the moment.

Sea star in Prince William Sound, Alaska.

Steller sea lions on a buoy near Cordova, Alaska.

Iguana in a tree on Bocas del Toro, Panama.

A sea otter floats on the water in front of mountains in Prince William Sound, Alaska.

A striped dolphin races toward the horizon in the Gulf of Corinth, Greece.

A striped dolphin leaps in the Gulf of Corinth, Greece (published).

An endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtle is released on Galveston Island, Texas.

The Eiffel Tower in Paris.
